Akrosept Disinfectant Granules

Akrosept Disinfectant Granules

In the Health Services and in Local Governments, where a number of authorities have banned the use of liquid chlorine bleach, NaDCC Sodium Dichloroisocyanurate Granules and Tablet formulations predominate as the favoured method of Chlorine Disinfection. Disinfecting solutions prepared from Akrosept Effervescent Chlorine Tablets & Granules are fast acting and have a complete spectrum of Biocidal Activity. Bacteria, Bacterial Spores, Algae, Fungi, Protozoa and Viruses are sensitive to their effects.

With the advent of the Health and Safety Act, COSHH (the Control of Substances Hazardous to Health Regulations) and CHIP (the Chemicals Hazard Information and Packaging for Supply Regulations), there has been a move towards safer handling and use of chemicals.

One of the greatest offenders involved in accidents both in the workplace and in the hospitals is liquid chlorine bleach, or Sodium Hypochlorite (NaOCL). Liquid Chlorine Bleach is responsible for thousands of accidents a year but is still widely used out of all disinfectants. This is because chlorine (of which bleach is just one of a number of donors) is regarded by many, including the Health Service and the Government, as the most effective disinfectant in the fight against disease. That is why it is recommended by the world’s major authorities for use against HIV (AIDS) and Hepatitis B viruses and why almost all of the world’s piped supplies are treated with chlorine.

Unfortunately, liquid chlorine bleach has a number of inherent disadvantages:

  1. It is unstable and degrades with age. In adverse storage conditions, the rate of degradation accelerates until the active strength disappears.
  2. It is corrosive and can damage the skin and eyes of the operator.
  3. It bleaches, stains and rots clothing and soft fabrics.
  4. It is difficult to handle and store, and requires venting caps which make spillage more likely.
  5. The strengths available vary so widely that it is difficult to make up accurate in-use solutions.

The use of chlorine products for infection control has a long and successful history in the medical arena. The earliest records date back to the 18th Century, when chlorine gas was used for fumigation in hospitals. But it was in the mid to late 19th Century when chlorine became pre-eminent as a hospital disinfectant, and its wide use continues today.

Akrosept disinfectant tablets & granules provide today’s answer, with their superior activity over traditional hypochlorite’s, coupled with their safe and simple application.

The term Disinfection is applied to a chemical agent which destroys or inhibits the growth of pathogenic microorganisms in the non-sporing or vegetative state. Disinfectants do not necessarily kill all microorganisms, but reduce them to a level that is harmful to neither health nor the quality of perishable goods. The term is used for agents used to treat inanimate objects and materials, and may also be applied to agents used to treat the skin and other body membranes and cavities.

  • High-Level Disinfectants can be expected to destroy all microorganisms, with the exception of high numbers of spores.
  • Intermediate-Level Disinfectants inactivate mycobacterium tuberculosis, vegetative bacteria, most viruses, and most fungi, but do not necessarily kill bacterial spores.
  • Low-Level Disinfectants can kill most bacteria, some viruses, and some fungi, but cannot be relied on to kill resistant microorganisms such as tubercule bacilli or bacterial spores.

Akrosept Disinfectant tablets & granules can reasonably be deduced to have a wide spectrum disinfectant effect, which is suitable for use for High, Intermediate and Low-Level Disinfection.

Akrosept Disinfectant Tablets - are effervescent disinfectant tablets which, when added to water, release disinfectant solutions at known and reliable in-use strengths. The tablet utilise the ingredient Sodium Dichloroisocyanurate (NaDCC), which is an organic chlorine donor that releases the active compound Hypochlorous Acid. NaDCC Sodium Dichloroisocyanurate is not a hypochlorite. NaDCC Sodium Dichloroisocyanurate dissolves in water to release Hypochlorous Acid (HOCL) and Monosodiumcyanurate.

Akrosept Disinfectant Granules - are effervescent disinfection granules containing the active ingredient Soduim Dichloroisocyanurate. They react with water in blood spillages to produce a rapid acting, wide spectrum disinfectant effective against vegetative bacteria, fungi, viruses and bacterial spores.

Its chemistry and mode of action in solution is significantly different than hypochlorite, giving an activity that is substantially more effective than hypochlorite, particularly where there may be organic contamination

They are Proven, Practical & Convenient Approach to Hard-Surface Disinfection.

Akrosept Tablets & Granules dissolve rapidly in water to produce a rapid acting, wide spectrum disinfectant solution effective against:

  • Vegetative Bacteria
  • Fungi
  • Viruses
  • Bacterial Spores including Tubercle bacilli, HBV, HIV, Hepatitis B and Herpes Virus

Advantages of using Akrosept Tablets & Granules:

  • Akrosept Tablets & Granules take hard surface disinfection beyond the confines of hypochlorites. A complete biocidal spectrum based on the unique action of NaDCC Sodium Dichloroisocyanurate ensures highly effective disinfection even in the presence of blood or other organic matter.

  • Akrosept Tablets & Granules are Economical in use. They provide an easy to use dilution system that eradicates the over-dosing that is common in liquid bleach and more importantly minimizes any under-dosing potential.
  • Akrosept Tablets are easy to store and distribute. No spillages, no leaks.
  • Akrosept Tablets & Granules are much safer to use than Liquid Chlorine Bleach, which means reduced risk of accident and personal injury.
  • Akrosept Tablets & Granules are less corrosive than liquid chlorine bleach. Tests have shown that nearly all metals in common use are more readily corroded by liquid chlorine bleach than Akrosept Tablets.
  • Akrosept Tablets & Granules possess greater biocidal properties, strength for strength, than liquid chlorine bleach especially in the presence of soiling.
  • Akrosept Tablets & Granules dissolve in solution to a near pH solution of 6.2 which means maximum antimicrobial activity at a minimum concentration of Cl & safer for operatives, unlike sodium hypochlorite which is invariably pH 9.0 – 12.9.
  • Akrosept Tablets & Granules are proven to be more effective in reducing bacteria total plate count (TPC) than solutions made using Sodium Hypochlorite Liquid Chlorine Bleach.
